Our Mission

Lake Park Synagogue is a Modern Orthodox shul with a rich history built on community and making everyone feel welcome and comfortable in our space while seeking to bring joy and inspiration through Tefillot (Prayer) learning Torah and a deep appreciation of Halakha (Jewish Law). These values are reflected through our classes, our singing, our special programs and the way we welcome each person who enters our building and our homes with warmth.

We strive to live up to the following values:

  • Inspiring a commitment to a life of learning Torah with a deep intellectual honesty and a love of our rich tradition
  • Recognizing that each Jew is on a different path and encouraging and guiding them to find God and spirituality in their life through the language and prism of Torah and Jewish Law
  • Finding a balance between a strict adherence to Jewish Law and an appreciation of secular knowledge for its own sake including art, culture, science and philosophy.
  • Respecting people from other faiths and welcoming them to our space to learn about our tradition.
  • We recognize the invaluable role that women have to play in our tradition and synagogue life. We strive to include women when possible within our understanding of Jewish Law and practice in consultation with accepted Rabbinic authorities and in line with the practice of other major Modern Orthodox communities.
  • We have a deep love and respect for Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael, both the land and the state of Israel. We celebrate Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) and many of our programs are based on learning about and deepening our connection to Israel.
  • We value social justice and are grateful for our shul’s historical connection with Tikkun Ha-Ir, a local organization that supports many projects to improve our local community in countless ways.
